The Technical University of Crete, one of Greece’s Higher Education Institutions, which places emphasis both on education and research, was established in 1977 in Chania Crete and admitted its first students in October 1984.

Today, the Technical University of Crete comprises 5 academic engineering schools, the School of Production Engineering and Management, the School of Mineral Resources Engineering, the School of Electronic & Computer Engineering, the School of Environmental Engineering and the School of Architectural Engineering, all of which have set very high objectives.

The Campus is built on a panoramic location in Kounoupidiana, Akrotiri, 7 km northeast of the city of Chania, with a total area surface of 290 hectares.

The mission of the Technical University of Crete is to develop modern engineering specialties, to place emphasis on research in fields of advanced technology as well as to establish close cooperation with the industry and other production organizations in Greece. 57 laboratories with excellent equipment, high technology infrastructure and brilliant staff members and 129 faculty staff members with international academic careers testify to the high quality of the educational and research work conducted at the modern facilities of the campus. This profile ranks the Technical University of Crete amongst the most prominent research institutions in Greece.

The University of Athens, first opened its doors on May 3rd, of 1837. In 1932 was officially named National Kapodistrian University of Athens, in honor of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, after the liberation of the nation.

In the dawn of the 20th century, the University of Athens was the only university in Greece. Today, the University provides Greek society with qualified scientists in the scientific fileds of medicine, social sciences, law and economics, philosophy, education and theology.

Like all universities in Greece, according to Law. 1268-1282, National Kapodistrian University of Athens shall:

  • provide knowledge through research and teaching and cultivate the arts
  • contribute to the formation of responsible people with scientific social, cultural and political consciousness and provide the necessary tools to ensure their perfect training for their academic and professional careers 
  • to help address the social, cultural and developmental needs of the country.
